Pioneering Tropical Rock Lobster Raft Grow-out for Northern Australia

This project will bring a world-leading Tropical Rock Lobster trial to Western Australia’s Kimberley region. Using our Cone Bay aquaculture facility, juvenile rock lobsters produced by Ornatas Pty Ltd in its North Queensland hatchery, will be grown to commercial size in a ground-breaking research and development trial.

Maxima will undertake the critical scientific work to trial the grow out of the juvenile lobsters in sea raft enclosures. This project will test the environmental conditions of the site as a suitable location for lobster production, as well as investigate feeding strategies, growth optimisation, production technology and market demand.
